Select should always be paired with a select box (trigger). When the user picks an option, the selected value persists in the trigger and controls other content on the page.
- filtering a table,
- switching a dashboard view
- updating a form field's dependent options.
The select box serves as a persistent indicator of the current state, so the user always knows which option is active and what drives the surrounding UI.
Single select
One value at a time. Use for severity, status, category, etc. The selected item shows a checkmark and a highlighted background.
Multiple select
